Fervent Fellowship: By committing your core to the cause, the Chalice of Binding has given you a boost to Strength, Stamina, Charisma, Intelligence, and Agility. All movement speed increased by 5%. Health and Spirit Regeneration increased by 10%. All Spirit-based damage increased by 50%.

Buff lasts until death or until the chalice’s quest has been fulfilled.

Astra giggled, registering my reaction by my slowly descending jaw. Only when it had struck the ground at our feet did she ask, “Isn’t it amazing?”

“I didn’t know buffs this powerful existed. Any one of these effects would be great. It’s like we just took six buffs and combined them into one!”

“My thought exactly,” Astra said. She giggled again and pulled me into a kiss.

I returned the embrace with all of my heart. As our lips and tongues danced gracefully, my emotions soared. There was something quite grand about risking everything to stand at an ally’s side.

And Astra was as dedicated as I was in this cause.

One by one, the field of stony-faced men and women were transformed. Lobin staggered away from Chaski, blinking and flexing his right hand.

Wordlessly, he roared into the night. In the orange glow of the bonfire, I saw pointed fangs in the man’s mouth. He was riordi, I suspected, though I couldn’t tell what kind of beast kin he was in the dim lighting.

Regardless, the burly man’s reaction galvanized the crowd. He was quickly enveloped by his vessels. The girls laughed with the man, all vying to be the one to hug or kiss him.

Iskander went next. After him, Mattias, Yurek, and then Pim took their turns.

I relished the moment, feeling the hearts of those I cared for linking with mine. Our cores were bound now, in a way that simply wasn’t possible without the chalice. I felt Pim bond with the group. Her eyes were alight with emotions when she pulled away from the golden handle.

Fear, pride, excitement, all brimmed over in the little mouse kin girl.

Her vessels followed her lead. For once, Kash kept his mouth shut. The lad seemed completely awed by the proceedings. More warming to see was how see Randon soothed his younger accomplice.

They’ll make a fine team, whether they want to or not, I mused dryly. And in the end, that’s all that matters.

Soon, every man, woman, elf, and riordi was bound to a singular purpose. Each time someone joined their core to the cause, I felt their commitment like a supportive presence.

This sense of building support eased the cold restrictions placed over my core.

It elevated the entire experience to a whole new level.

As emotionally charged as the night had become, the feast proceeded nicely.

Half the town of Bern ended up coming for a visit, and by the time all had been fed and taken food home for their families, the entire ox had been consumed.

Only a few foolhardy vessels drank too much. One vomited in a fire pit, creating a cloud of noxious fumes that ended the celebration abruptly.
